Image download problem fixed

Lately, many Botanicus users have been experiencing difficulty in downloading individual images from the site. This has been happening particularly when users have attempted to download the high quality versions of the images.

We wanted to inform you the users that the problem has now been fixed, and you should not have any further trouble in saving images from Botanicus. However, if you do still come across this problem while using the site, please let us know.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused anyone, and we greatly appreciate your patience while we resolved the issue.

Thank you for taking notice. I tried to download some pages that would not download recently. It still is not possible to download text pages of 'Description des plantes rares cultivées à Malmaison et à Navarre', of Aimé Bonpland. Could you fix that problem too?

Still unable to download images from Carolus Clusius 'Rariorum Plantarum Historia'. Thanks for your rapid attention to this problem, and best of luck with what I hope is an easy fix.

Thanks so much!

Klaas,

Quite a few of our titles were imported from our former book hosting site Illustrated Garden. The files from that site were presented in a much lower resolution, thus when they were absorbed into Botanicus, they were still subject to these limitations. This explains why users such as yourself are unable to download high quality versions of the pages for those particular volumes.

We are in the process of referring back to our archived high resolution scans from these books and from time to time will be uploading these titles again to utilize our current standards of providing downloadable high resolution JP2 files of these pages. We are doing this as time permits in our busy production schedule, so we ask that you be patient with us as we are doing so.

Sir,
Last three months, I have been trying to download the publication of Roth, Albrecht Wilhelm,(1757-1834), Novae plantarum species and de Candolle's Prodromus (some pars. I could download them but to no use. Every time there appears a message indicating that there was an error in opening the document. It is gone. It is frustating. Please do something to remove this problem. Othewise, it is all working and wonderful. Thanks.

First, thank you very much for your immense work. I'am really happy for that. Concerning download problems, I have them with Tabernaemontanus, both editions you have online. And for Linné, Species plantarum (1797-1824) vol 1, part 1 is o.k., but for the rest (v1 p2 to v6 p1-2) it doesn't show the download option.
Thank you very much

Continued thanks to everyone's efforts to notify us of missing download options! Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the users of Botanicus.

In good news, we have now developed programming to detect these missing download options as well as incomplete PDF's, and we are working our way through processing the backlog of these errors. There is a considerable number of these errors, so please be patient with us as we process these through our system.

Hello (from France)!
I suddenly discover the news about the download problem (dated january 2009).
Thanks to the whole team, Mike, Chris… and the TECHNICIANS! Chris, do you remember when I told you that there was a problem ;-)?
Like Klaas I will now work the "Malmaison" pictures of cacti.
You are the best! Please continue: the "crisis" is not the problem of "knowledge propagation"…

Any idea when it will be fixed?

I am trying to print selected pages from John Gerard's Herball from the site but cannot get it to print despite many efforts in many formats. The page prints blank except for a "pafe 1 of 1" in the top right corner and the web url address in the bottom left corner. Any thoughts on how to get a page to print? It is almost as if there is code preventing prints.

Downloads for Novon seem to be working fine for me right now. Perhaps when you were trying there was a temporary glitch with the website. If you are still having trouble downloading the pages from Novon, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you.

Hello. I cant download an image from http://www.botanicus.org/title/b11968205 (plate LVII); it saves as a blank: please advise.... Ian St George, Wellington, New Zealand

Ian,

Sorry for your frustration in downloading that image. I just tried downloading it, and I had no issues with the image being blank. I'm not exactly sure what may have gone wrong at the time you were attempting to save the image, so I would suggest you try saving it again to see if it works for you now. If you're still having issues, feel free to email me and we can further troubleshoot the problem.

Dear Mike,

I hope you can help us!

We are doing an artist book for HKW concerning horticulture in berlin.
So we were looking for some old and very common plates (i.e.Solanum tuberosum, Cucurbita, Brassicaceae, Solanaceae, Solanum lycopersicum...) that we would like to mix with other materials inside our publication, such as foreing recipes, interviews...

However we could not find a way to surf among images. I mean, when I look for Solanum lycopersicum I see texts and plates together...

There is a way to search just the images and not the texts?

Thank you for you help!!!

Hi,
I really appreciate that you have put the Harvard Botanical Museum Leaflets online. However, I haven't been able to download any of them. I click on the download link, enter the captcha code in the new window, click submit, then... nothing. The bottom of the window says "Waiting for botanicus.org..." but I've tried waiting for quite a while and nothing happens.

regards,
Chris McLean

I can download entire publications, and tehn choose the image I need in P'shop, but how does one download just one page? Sorry if this is really stupid, but I've spent over an hour exploring and can't figure it out.

This is a FANTASTIC resource. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks for your interest in Botanicus, Marie! To download just a single page, click the "Download & Save" icon in the control panel of the viewer (the box that allows you to zoom in, zoom out, rotate, etc.). The Download & Save icon is the downward facing arrow next to the Rotate Right icon.

I hope this helps, and please feel free to ask for further help if you have any additional questions about Botanicus.

Hello,

first of all thank you so much for giving us access to all of these files.

I have trouble reading and downloading this document "Bulletin de l'académie malgache", Vol.1-2, 1902-1903. (http://www.botanicus.org/page/1227187)

The pages I am interested in are green ant not readable. Can you fix the problem please ?

Thanks a lot.

Dear Mr. Blomberg,
since several month it is not possible to download most of the recent additions, especially the Engelmann files. If there are some people in the Botanicus communicty, who will try to make a clean copy of the handwritings or try to translate from German to English, this is very difficult without pdf-files. May be you can open these files in the near future. Thank you very much in advance.

Joachim,

So sorry for the inconvenience of not being able to download the Engelmann materials! There seems to currently be an issue with local PDF creation on our end, and we are working to fix the problem at this time. Hopefully we are able to resolve this problem soon.

In the meantime, PDF files of these materials up through Notebook 35 are available for download at our partner website Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) at https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/

Thank you for your patience while we address this issue, and thank you for your patronage!

I've been having similar problems after linking through from plantillustrations.org. I have followed the instructions as far as I can to download high-resolution images, but the tiles showing at the top of the print window do not reflect the image I am downloading. I have tried refreshing the image (per the instructions) but this does not work. Consequently even the “largest” file downloads as 49 bytes.

I tried contacting a Chris Freeland regarding this problem but the email bounced as undeliverable.

I was following a link from Archive.org to download a copy of Robert Sayer’s The Florist, but from multiple machines with different operating systems I get just blank pages (with your usual lists on the side) and see no download spot to click on. You do show a list of pages so I'm assuming the item is supposed to still be available and would love to see it!

Thanks.
